Proyecto Cuenca Barú

ProjectDBC Ally

Cuenca del Barú, Costa Rica

The Barú Watershed is bigger than any one project. It’s an alliance of people, land projects, community initiatives, farms, retreat centers, local businesses, educators and residents, everyone whose life touches this water, who’ve chosen to take responsibility for it together.

The focus stays simple: learn the watershed, care for the water, document what actually works, and build a shared culture of accountability across the whole Barú system. This isn’t about joining DBC. It’s about standing publicly for the commons, for clean water, healthy soil and a watershed that can keep supporting everyone in it, while keeping your own identity, governance and autonomy fully intact.

It’s built for land projects, eco-lodges, retreat centers, farms, schools, community associations, local businesses, homeowners, renters, volunteers, researchers, anyone who lives, works or plants within this watershed and wants to show up for it.

The Cuenca Barú Covenant

As an Ally of the Barú Watershed, I commit to:

  • Learning where my water flows
  • Keeping waste and contamination out of the waterways
  • Protecting soil and vegetation
  • Respecting local names and histories
  • Acting with care for those upstream and downstream

Water is a commons, and caring for it is a shared responsibility. Participation can look like learning, action, story, donation, service or support for the people and projects already caring for this place, offered according to what each person or project can actually give.

The Barú Watershed’s website, sign-up flow and public project directory are currently under construction. This page will be updated with links and the full sign-up process as they go live. For now, reach out directly if you’d like to become a Watershed Ally.
